Alanine

One of the twenty amino acids that build proteins, the simplest after glycine: the body makes it itself and uses it to carry nitrogen from the muscles to the liver. It was first synthesised in 1850 by Adolph Strecker. This family brings together the active ingredient, labelled standards and other impurities.

Did you know?Radiation creates radicals in alanine that are stable enough to be measured: this is why it is used as a dosimeter to check doses in radiotherapy.
