Amfenac
A non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug derived from phenylacetic acid that inhibits the COX-1 and COX-2 cyclooxygenases; it is also the active form of nepafenac, eye drops approved in the US in 2005 for pain and inflammation after cataract surgery. This family brings together the active ingredient, metabolites, labelled standards and other impurities.
Did you know?Nepafenac is a prodrug: it crosses the cornea and only inside the eye do tissue hydrolases turn it into amfenac. Bromfenac, another eye drop, has the same structure with an extra bromine atom.
