Amoxicillin
A semi-synthetic penicillin of the aminopenicillin family, introduced into medicine in 1972: it is among the most prescribed antibiotics in the world, for ear, throat, respiratory and urinary infections. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, labelled standards, nitrosamines and other impurities.
Did you know?It was built on 6-APA, the penicillin 'core' isolated in the late 1950s at the Brockham Park laboratories in Surrey: it gave rise to many new semi-synthetic penicillins.
