Anagrelide
An imidazoquinazoline derivative that lowers the platelet count by slowing the maturation of megakaryocytes in the bone marrow: approved in the United States in 1997 for essential thrombocythaemia. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, labelled standards, nitrosamines and other impurities.
Did you know?It was developed as an antiplatelet agent, but studies showed that it reduced the number of platelets: the unexpected effect became its main indication.
