Arteether

A semi-synthetic derivative of artemisinin (an ethyl derivative), given by intramuscular injection against severe and cerebral malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum, including chloroquine-resistant strains; in India it was already in use in the late 1990s. This family brings together the active ingredient and labelled standards.

Did you know?In India it was developed as a mixture of the alpha and beta forms, more soluble in oil and cheaper to produce; to obtain it, the Chinese plant Artemisia annua was introduced and cultivated in the country.
