Artemether
An antimalarial derived from artemisinin, of which it is the methyl ether, in medical use since 1987; it is used mainly by mouth combined with lumefantrine and by injection for severe malaria. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, labelled standards and other impurities.
Did you know? The artemisinin it comes from is found in sweet wormwood, Artemisia annua: its discovery earned the Chinese scientist Tu Youyou the 2015 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.
