Azelastine

A second-generation H1 antihistamine with a phthalazinone structure, patented in 1971 and in medical use since 1986; it is used as a nasal spray and eye drops for allergic rhinitis and conjunctivitis. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, labelled standards, nitrosamines, other impurities and synthesis intermediates.

Did you know?It is described as having a triple mode of action: besides blocking histamine H1 receptors, it stabilises mast cells and has an anti-inflammatory effect.
