Bamifylline
A bronchodilator of the xanthine family, derived from theophylline, used for bronchial asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease; studied since the 1980s, it works by selectively blocking the adenosine A1 receptor. This family brings together the active ingredient.
Did you know? Thanks to its selectivity for A1 receptors it has also served as a research tool in cardiology, to understand how the heart learns to withstand ischaemia during coronary angioplasty.
