Bezafibrate
A lipid-lowering drug of the fibrate family, introduced in the late 1970s: it mainly lowers blood triglycerides and raises HDL, the 'good' cholesterol. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, labelled standards and other impurities.
Did you know?Besides PPAR alpha, the usual target of fibrates, it also activates PPAR gamma and delta: this is why it is described as a PPAR 'pan-agonist', with effects on sugar metabolism too.
