Boldine
An aporphine alkaloid characteristic of boldo (Peumus boldus), a tree endemic to central Chile, where it is the most abundant alkaloid in the bark: it is studied mainly for its antioxidant properties. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities and other impurities.
Did you know? The name boldo comes from the Mapuche word foḻo: in South America the tree's leaves are mixed with mate to soften its flavour and used in cooking rather like bay leaves.
