Camptothecin
An alkaloid isolated in 1966 by Monroe Wall and Mansukh Wani from the Chinese tree Camptotheca acuminata: it blocks topoisomerase I and is the parent of anticancer drugs such as topotecan and irinotecan. This family brings together labelled standards and other impurities.
Did you know? The same two chemists also discovered paclitaxel, from the Pacific yew: two of the most important plant-derived anticancer drugs came from the same laboratory.
