Cefazolin
A first-generation cephalosporin, patented in 1967 and in use since 1971: it is one of the preferred antibiotics for preventing infection in surgery and is on the WHO List of Essential Medicines. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, labelled standards and other impurities.
Did you know? Its molecule holds two nitrogen-rich rings: a tetrazole, with four nitrogen atoms and a single carbon, and a methylthiadiazole, a side chain it shares with several other cephalosporins.
