Cefepime
A fourth-generation cephalosporin, active against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Patented in 1982 and in use since the mid-1990s, it is given intravenously or intramuscularly for serious infections. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, labelled standards and other impurities.
Did you know?It carries a positive and a negative charge in the same molecule: the positive one sits on the N-methylpyrrolidinium group, which helps it penetrate Gram-negative bacteria.
