Ceftobiprole
An intravenous fifth-generation cephalosporin, active even against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA): approved in Canada and several European countries for pneumonia and, in 2024, in the United States as well. This family brings together the active ingredient and other impurities.
Did you know? Its trump card is PBP2a, the protein MRSA uses to escape other beta-lactams: ceftobiprole binds it with high affinity. It is given as a prodrug, ceftobiprole medocaril.
