Chlortalidone
A thiazide-like diuretic that makes the kidneys excrete more sodium and water. Patented in 1957 and in use since 1960, it treats high blood pressure and oedema and is on the WHO List of Essential Medicines. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, labelled standards, nitrosamines and other impurities.
Did you know?It works like the thiazides but lacks their benzothiadiazine ring, hence the label thiazide-like. With a half-life of about 40 hours, its effect can last up to three days.
