Cinacalcet
A calcimimetic that makes the calcium-sensing receptor of the parathyroid glands more responsive, so the glands release less parathyroid hormone. Approved in 2004, it is used for secondary hyperparathyroidism in dialysis patients and for high calcium caused by parathyroid carcinoma. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, metabolites, labelled standards, nitrosamines and other impurities.
Did you know?It was the first allosteric modulator of a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) to reach the market: it does not occupy the calcium site but binds elsewhere and amplifies calcium's effect.
