Clindamycin
A lincosamide antibiotic made in the laboratory in 1966 by replacing a hydroxyl group of lincomycin with a chlorine atom, on the market since the late 1960s. It is used against Gram-positive and anaerobic bacterial infections and, topically, for acne. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, labelled standards, nitrosamines and other impurities.
Did you know?Lincomycin, its parent molecule, was isolated from Streptomyces lincolnensis, a bacterium found in a soil sample from Lincoln, Nebraska: hence the name.
