Clomifene
A selective oestrogen receptor modulator synthesised in 1956 by chemist Frank Palopoli and first marketed in 1967: it is used to stimulate ovulation in fertility treatment. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, labelled standards, nitrosamines and other impurities.
Did you know?Ironically, one of the first uses considered was as a contraceptive: instead, a 1961 study showed that it restored ovulation in 28 out of 36 women.
