Cyclopentolate

An anticholinergic synthesised in 1952 as an analogue of atropine: as an eye drop it dilates the pupil and blocks focusing for some hours (cycloplegia), and it is widely used in children's eye examinations. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities and other impurities.

Did you know?It is often chosen as a shorter-acting alternative to atropine, which lasts much longer: pupil dilation lasts up to about 24 hours and the loss of focusing from 6 to 24 hours.
