Cytidine
A nucleoside formed by the base cytosine attached to a ribose ring: it is one of the components of RNA. Its triphosphate form, CTP, is used by cells to build RNA and some membrane lipids. This family brings together the active ingredient, labelled standards and other impurities.
Did you know?In the 1950s chemist Werner Bergmann isolated unusual nucleosides from a Florida Keys sponge, Tectitethya crypta: they inspired cytarabine, a cytidine analogue used against leukaemia since 1969.
