Decoquinate

A coccidiostat of the 4-quinolone class, introduced in 1967 and added to animal feed to prevent coccidiosis, an intestinal infection caused by parasites of the genus Eimeria, especially in chickens. It works by blocking respiration in the parasite's mitochondria. This family brings together the active ingredient and labelled standards.

Did you know?In 2012 a drug screen against the liver stages of malaria identified it as a potent antimalarial, active on several stages of the Plasmodium parasite.
