Deslanoside
A cardiac glycoside from woolly foxglove (Digitalis lanata), described in 1933 by the chemists Stoll and Kreis in their studies of the glycosides in its leaves: it is lanatoside C without its acetyl group, used mainly intravenously in heart failure and some arrhythmias. This family brings together the active ingredient and other impurities.
Did you know? Its alternative name, desacetyl-lanatoside C, tells its origin: it can also be made by removing from lanatoside C, with a simple alkaline reaction, the acetyl group attached to one of its sugars.
