Diazepam
A benzodiazepine that enhances the action of the neurotransmitter GABA, synthesised in 1959 by chemist Leo Sternbach and on the market since 1963: it is used for anxiety, muscle spasms and seizures. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, labelled standards and other impurities.
Did you know?Sternbach reached the benzodiazepines almost by chance: in 1957, while tidying the laboratory, he had a long-shelved compound tested, chlordiazepoxide, which became the founder of the family.
