Diclosan
An antimicrobial of the chlorinated diphenyl ether family, 5-chloro-2-(4-chlorophenoxy)phenol, also known as DCPP, a close relative of triclosan. It is used in liquid dishwashing detergents and disinfectant hand soaps; in 2014 the EU Biocidal Products Committee assessed it for approval. This family brings together the active ingredient and labelled standards.
Did you know? The name tells the difference from its more famous cousin: diclosan has two chlorine atoms, triclosan three; because the two are so similar, the EU assessment relied partly on triclosan data.
