Dimetridazole
A nitroimidazole antiprotozoal used for around thirty years in veterinary medicine, especially in turkeys against histomonosis, or 'blackhead'; in the European Union it was phased out of food-producing animals between the mid-1990s and 2000. This family brings together the active ingredient and labelled standards.
Did you know? The parasite it was used against, Histomonas meleagridis, reaches turkeys hidden inside the eggs of a small intestinal worm, Heterakis gallinarum.
