Dinaciclib
An investigational inhibitor of cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs), the "switches" of the cell cycle: described in 2010, it was studied in chronic lymphocytic leukaemia, multiple myeloma, breast cancer and melanoma, and in 2011 received FDA orphan drug designation, without being approved. This family brings together the active ingredient, nitrosamines and other impurities.
Did you know?Cyclins, the partners of CDKs, were discovered in 1982 by Tim Hunt while studying sea urchins; the name, he has said, was partly a joke about his love of cycling. In 2001 he won the Nobel Prize with Hartwell and Nurse.
