Dopamine
A catecholamine neurotransmitter that regulates movement, motivation and reward. First synthesised in London in 1910, only in the late 1950s did Arvid Carlsson show that it is a chemical messenger of the brain (Nobel Prize 2000). It is also given by drip for very low blood pressure. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, labelled standards, nitrosamines and other impurities.
Did you know?Bananas turn brown partly because of dopamine: in the fruit it is the natural substrate of the enzyme polyphenol oxidase, which turns it into brown pigments.
