Doxycycline
A semisynthetic antibiotic of the tetracycline family, approved in the United States in 1967. It is used for respiratory, skin and soft tissue infections, for Lyme disease and in the treatment of acne. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, labelled standards, nitrosamines and other impurities.
Did you know?Natural tetracycline, the founder of its family, has been found in the bones of Nubians who lived between AD 350 and 550 in present-day Sudan: it may have come from a beer brewed from grain contaminated by Streptomyces bacteria.
