Dronedarone
A benzofuran antiarrhythmic approved in 2009 to reduce the risk of hospitalisation in patients with atrial fibrillation or flutter; it is a close relative of amiodarone. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, metabolites, labelled standards, nitrosamines and other impurities.
Did you know?It is a 'redesigned' amiodarone: chemists removed the iodine atoms and added a methanesulfonamide group, so its half-life is less than a day instead of almost two months.
