Duocarmycin

A family of natural antitumour antibiotics first isolated in 1978 from bacteria of the genus Streptomyces: they bind the minor groove of DNA and alkylate adenine, irreversibly damaging the double helix. This family brings together the active ingredient and other impurities.

Did you know? They are among the most potent antitumour agents known, active at concentrations of a few picomolar; this is why their derivatives have been chosen as 'payloads' for antibody-drug conjugates.
