Estramustine
A hybrid molecule joining oestradiol to a nitrogen mustard, first synthesised in the mid-1960s and used since the early 1970s for prostate cancer: it works mainly by blocking the microtubules that cells need to divide. This family brings together the active ingredient.
Did you know?It was born for breast cancer, inspired by the build-up of labelled oestrogens in tumour tissue: it was then redirected to the prostate when it was seen to concentrate precisely there in rats.
