Estrone
A natural oestrogen produced by the ovaries and, after menopause, mainly by adipose tissue: in 1929 it became the first steroid hormone to be isolated, almost simultaneously by Edward Doisy in the United States and Adolf Butenandt in Germany. This family brings together the active ingredient, metabolites, labelled standards and other impurities.
Did you know?It was obtained from the urine of pregnant women; Butenandt got there about two months after Doisy, and in 1939 he received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his research on sex hormones.
