Felypressin

A synthetic peptide similar to vasopressin, the antidiuretic hormone of the pituitary gland. It narrows small blood vessels and is added to local anaesthetics such as prilocaine, especially at the dentist's, as an alternative to adrenaline. This family brings together the active ingredient and pharmacopoeial impurities.

Did you know?It was synthesised in 1960 almost simultaneously by two groups, Boissonnas and Guttmann in Switzerland and Meienhofer and du Vigneaud in the United States; its name recalls the phenylalanine and lysine in its sequence.
