Fludrocortisone
A synthetic corticosteroid with mainly mineralocorticoid action, that is sodium retention: patented in 1953 and introduced in 1954, it replaces the missing aldosterone in adrenal insufficiency, such as Addison's disease. This family brings together the active ingredient, labelled standards and other impurities.
Did you know?It was the first fluorine-containing medicine to be marketed: in essence it is cortisol with a fluorine atom in place of a hydrogen atom, which multiplies its mineralocorticoid action.
