Flutamide

The first non-steroidal antiandrogen: synthesised in 1967 and first marketed in 1983 (in the United States in 1989), it blocks the action of testosterone and is used in prostate cancer. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, labelled standards and other impurities.

Did you know?It was originally synthesised as a bacteriostatic agent, against bacteria: its antiandrogen activity was only discovered later, by chance.
