Gabapentin
An antiepileptic approved in 1993 in the UK, used for epilepsy and neuropathic pain, for example after shingles: it acts on the alpha-2-delta subunit of calcium channels. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, labelled standards and other impurities.
Did you know?It was designed as an analogue of the neurotransmitter GABA, hence the name, but it does not bind GABA receptors or change GABA levels: its real target has been nicknamed the gabapentin receptor.
