Gemfibrozil
A fibrate that activates PPAR-alpha receptors in the liver: it mainly lowers triglycerides and raises HDL, the 'good' cholesterol. It has been used against lipid disorders since the early 1980s. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, metabolites, labelled standards and other impurities.
Did you know?It was at the centre of the Helsinki Heart Study, a trial carried out in Finland on more than 4,000 men and published in 1987, in which it reduced heart attacks compared with placebo.
