Gestodene
A third-generation progestin, synthesised in 1975 and introduced in 1987 in combined contraceptive pills; in some countries it is also used, with estradiol, in menopausal hormone therapy. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, metabolites, labelled standards and other impurities.
Did you know?It is almost identical to levonorgestrel, differing by a single double bond, and it is the most potent contraceptive progestin: it blocks ovulation at doses about 10,000 times lower than progesterone.
