Glyceryl Trinitrate
It is nitroglycerin, first prepared in 1847 by Italian chemist Ascanio Sobrero. Since 1879, after a report by English physician William Murrell in The Lancet, it has been used for angina pectoris because it widens blood vessels. This family brings together the active ingredient and other impurities.
Did you know?Sobrero warned against tasting it because it invariably caused a severe headache. Today we know it works by releasing nitric oxide, a powerful vasodilator.
