Halothane
An inhaled general anaesthetic, synthesised in 1951 by C. W. Suckling in Widnes, England, and first used clinically in 1956 in Manchester: being non-flammable, it replaced ether and cyclopropane. This family brings together other impurities.
Did you know?It is the only inhalational anaesthetic containing bromine; it is sensitive to light, so it is kept in dark bottles with a little thymol as a stabiliser.
