Hexachlorophene

A disinfectant from the chlorinated phenol family, developed in New York by the team of chemist William S. Gump and patented in 1941: for decades it was the antibacterial in soaps, toothpastes and skin cleansers, and today its use is much more limited. This family brings together the active ingredient.

Did you know?It was born with the code G-11: compound number 11 in the 'G series' of halogenated phenols studied by Gump's team; its almost complete lack of smell was a selling point over older phenolic antiseptics.
