Hydrocodone
A semi-synthetic opioid synthesised in 1920 in Germany by Carl Mannich and Helene Löwenheim and on the market since 1924: it is used for moderate to severe pain and, in liquid formulations, to relieve cough. This family brings together other impurities.
Did you know? Its chemical name, dihydrocodeinone, recalls its kinship with codeine, but it can also be made from thebaine, another opium alkaloid, by hydrogenation over a palladium catalyst.
