Iobenguane

A noradrenaline analogue, also known as MIBG, that is taken up by cells of the sympathetic nervous system: described in 1980 and labelled with radioactive iodine, it is used to image and treat phaeochromocytomas, paragangliomas and neuroblastomas. This family brings together the active ingredient and labelled standards.

Did you know?It was created to image the adrenal medulla, but it also turned out to be a treatment: in 2018 the iodine-131 version became the first therapy approved in the United States for advanced phaeochromocytoma and paraganglioma.
