Ipratropium
An anticholinergic bronchodilator derived from atropine, patented in 1966 and in use since 1974: it is inhaled for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma, and used as a nasal spray for a runny nose. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, labelled standards and other impurities.
Did you know? Its name combines isopropyl and atropine, from which it derives; it is chemically related to the substances of thorn apple (Datura stramonium), already used in ancient India against asthma.
