Khellin
A furanochromone found in bishop's weed (Visnaga daucoides, also called Ammi visnaga), a plant used since ancient Egypt for renal colic: in the mid-20th century it was studied as a coronary vasodilator for angina and as a bronchodilator for asthma. This family brings together the active ingredient.
Did you know? The search for less toxic derivatives of khellin led to two very different medicines: the antiarrhythmic amiodarone and cromoglicate, used to prevent asthma and allergies.
