Lactitol
A disaccharide sugar alcohol made by hydrogenating lactose, the sugar in milk: it is used as a low-calorie sweetener (E966) and as an osmotic laxative, approved in the United States for chronic constipation in 2020. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities and other impurities.
Did you know?It is only 30-40% as sweet as sugar and provides about half the calories, because the small intestine barely absorbs it: bacteria in the colon ferment it instead, like a prebiotic.
