Levomefolate
Levomefolate (L-methylfolate) is the biologically active form of folate, vitamin B9: it donates a methyl group to homocysteine, turning it into methionine, and it is the form that circulates in the blood and crosses the blood-brain barrier. It is used as a supplement. This family brings together the active ingredient, labelled standards and other impurities.
Did you know? The name folate comes from the Latin folium, leaf: in 1941 three researchers at the University of Texas isolated it for the first time from about four tonnes of spinach.
