Lomustine
An alkylating agent of the nitrosourea family, approved in the United States in 1976 and taken by mouth: it is used mainly against brain tumours and, as a second-line option, in Hodgkin lymphoma. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, metabolites, labelled standards, nitrosamines and other impurities.
Did you know? Its abbreviation CCNU sums up its chemistry, chloroethyl-cyclohexyl-nitrosourea. It is so fat-soluble that it crosses the blood-brain barrier, and it is also used in veterinary medicine for some tumours in dogs and cats.
