Macitentan

An antagonist of endothelin receptors, endothelin being a substance made by blood vessels that narrows them strongly. It was approved in the United States in 2013 to slow the progression of pulmonary arterial hypertension. This family brings together the active ingredient, metabolites, labelled standards, nitrosamines and other impurities.

Did you know?Endothelin was discovered in 1988 at the University of Tsukuba, Japan, by Masashi Yanagisawa, then a PhD student: the discovery became his doctoral thesis.
