Melphalan

An alkylating agent of the nitrogen mustard family, linked to the amino acid phenylalanine; studied in the mid-1950s and approved in the United States in 1964, it is used mainly in multiple myeloma and before stem cell transplantation. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, labelled standards and other impurities.

Did you know?In the 1950s it was studied in parallel in Britain and in the Soviet Union, where it was named sarcolysin: it is still also known as L-sarcolysin today.
